My Apologies.....

Hello blog world! It's been way too long! 10 months to the day, to be exact, and I'm sorry. Needless to say, I did not accomplish my New Years resolutions, but 2014 is 2 months away and I'm ready to start anew.

Where have I been? I started working a second job in January and lost all of my time to work on my blog. I was also wedding planning and I got overly stressed. When I  get stressed, I shut down, thus, my blog suffered.

I got married (September 21) and since then, my new husband and I have been working on updating and organizing our apartment (more to come).

I miss you all and am going to be recommitting myself to my blog. I would like to start weekly, and build from there. Without further adieu, I would like to announce that I am back and you can look forward to even more trends, style, and make up advice from yours truly.

Thanks for your patience and commitment to Golden Tresses Blog.

Soap Style!

I see some of the best (and worst) hairstyles while watching soaps. I was watching my soap today (Days of Our Lives) and was inspired by a hairstyle worn by Alison Sweeney. I think this style is soft an  elegant, and certainly easy to DIY. Here are pictures of the front and back of the hairstyle.

Together this style: start with a side part and gather hair into a low side pony tail, securing with a clear elastic. Next, tease or back comb entire pony tail in 1/4 inch sections, spreading the pony tail out so it becomes wide and flat. Smooth the surface of the bottom side of the pony tail. Roll the teased pony tail upward and use bobby pins to tuck ends under and secure roll. Mist with your favorite hairspray.

Ombré Effect

I was going through some old pictures I had on my phone and came across a more recent photo of a guest that wanted ombré and I thought I would share with you. I used a red brown on her base and highlighted her ends, feathering the lightener up to various lengths to meld the colors together and give it a faded effect. Enjoy!

Happy New Year!

I'm back and it's 2013! I cannot believe how fast the past year went! The biggest thing that comes to my mind when I think of New Year's is new years resolutions. Do you have any resolutions for 2013? I have two big resolutions:

1.) Blog more regularly. It is important to me to blog more regularly because I started this blog for a reason and I have put a lot of time into it. I recognize to be a better blogger I'm going to have to start doing things like coming up with a blog schedule and maybe even making a calendar in advance. I love blogging and I get enjoyment out of sharing my expertise with others that are interested. I'm going to try starting off by posting at the very least every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and I will work myself up from there. I get overwhelmed easily when I have a lot on my plate and my reaction is always the same: Complete shutdown which leads to me avoiding everything I need to get done. I am holding myself accountable.

2.) Get on the weight-loss train for my wedding in September. Isn't it really cliché to say this? I need to be serious though. I want to look my absolute best for my wedding and I do have a long road to get there. I allowed myself to put on weight during the holidays, and I'm too afraid to even weight myself. More important than even losing the weight is just being healthy and having a strong body. Being skinny doesn't mean you're fit. I have 263 days until my wedding. Ready. Set. GO!

Referring to resolution #2, I was browsing through my Get Fit board on Pinterest and found a recipe for a detox bath that I pinned awhile back. What better way to start a fitness/health routine than to cleanse your body of all the toxins and bad stuff that's there and make room for more good stuff? (Particularly if some of us hit the alcohol frequently this past holiday season). Here is the recipe.

I wish you all a happy and healthy new year. Good luck with your resolutions and if you try the bath, let me know how it goes!

Perfect Bold Hued Lips

A huge trend in make up this season is bold lip color. From reds to berries, and bright pinks, this trend is definitely catching on. Think of the possibilities. With all your holiday parties coming up, a bold lip is your perfect accessory! Here's how you can create a perfect long lasting lip look.

A few things you will need before you begin:

  • Lip Scrub
  • Lip Primer
  • Bold Lip Liner
  • Matching Lipstick
  • Lip Brush
When choosing to wear a bold lip color, it's best to start with healthy lips. I like to begin the process using a lip scrub like Fresh Sugar Lip Polish. This will get rid of any dead flakes and it helps moisturize and make your lips super soft.

Next, apply your lip primer to dry lips. Allow the primer to absorb and carefully line the edge of your lips. This isn't a pretty picture :-) The fill in your lips using the liner. This will give your lipstick a base to adhere to, and when the lipstick starts to wear off, you will still be covered by your liner.

Last, using your lip brush, apply the lipstick to your lips. Smile! You have gorgeous bold lips, wasn't that easy? Pair a bold lip look with simple eye make up to avoid looking over done. Have fun with this look!
